Taxila Abhiman”, a spectacular ceremony which celebrated the rich history and the proud legacy of Taxila Central College in a sequence of colorful artistic performances, was staged at Nelum Pokuna national theatre on 23^rd June 2024 with the participation of distinguished past pupils, past principals, past teachers and many other prominent figures. This event celebrated the 78 years of history of the school as a central college, and overall 119 years of heritage since its inception from 1905. The official launch of the college history book named “Taxilawa” was one the key highlights of this grand ceremony.

The Chief Guest of this event was Hon. Vidura Wickramanayake, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs while distinguished past Taxilian Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka and former commander of Sri Lanka Army General Daya Rathnayake participated as guests of honour. In addition, this event saw the presence of large number of renowned professionals who are past Taxilians including Professors, Entrepreneurs, Educationalists, Engineers, Doctors, Artists, Journalists, CEOs and Military Officers adding color to the gathering.

The stage performances were fabulous combinations of current students and past pupils which unfolded a glamorous show that attracted every soul in the theatre.  This event was organized by Taxila Past Pupils’ Association led by its President Col. Manoj Manjula Perera (ret) with the patronage of current Principal Mr. Niluka Weerasinghe together with the Past Pupils’ Executive Committee, current teachers and the well-wishers.

This event goes down in the history of Taxila Central College as the first of its kind and of such magnitude, and an evening of celebrations which connected many generations of Taxilians through memories, emotions and the warmth of camaraderie.
